No doubt we've all been there before; trying to find something new for little Johnny's birthday party, some new twist or angle that will make one more memory in a long string of birthday parties. It isn't easy under the best of circumstances, but if your child is one of these who always seems to have everything, who has already seen everything, already done everything, it becomes a special challenge. It's important when planning your party and renting your clown that you take into consideration what kind of clown you want for your child and his or her friends. This is *especially* important if your child or one of his or her friends suffers from coulrephobia, the technical name for the fear of clowns. Fear of clowns need not make clown rental an absurd proposition; it simply means that when arranging your clown rental, you will have a new set of problems to keep in mind. We think of clowns as children's delights, but in fact, from a child's point of view, they are distorted monsters with white faces, red noses, and a plethora of features not known to mankind. Renting a clown who, perhaps, has a bit of facepainting, but no white face and red nose, may be the perfect way for your child to enjoy a clown rental.

Clown rental is not at all hard. Look in the Yellow Pages, or contact your local party planning service, to find the clown rental nearest you. Be sure to state any special needs you have; if your child is generally put off by in your face sorts of people, for example, ask if they can provide a gentle clown who can entertain and amuse the children without being too brash. If your child loves balloons, try to get a clown who can make balloon animals. If your child loves acrobatic tricks, try to find a clown who can do those. Tailoring the clown to the age of the children and the needs of the party is not radical or outlandish; it's simply to be expected.
